3M Hard Hat

The H-700 and H-800 Series Hard Hats from 3M provide comfort and protection at the same time. These award-winning hard hats are lightweight when compared to hard hats of competitors, which makes them comfortable when used for an extended period of time. They are available in different colors, including yellow, white, green, and blue.

Each of 3M's new hard hats feature a UVicator Sensor, which slowly changes color as the hat is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. The sensor, a tag on the upper part of the hat, starts off as a reddish-orange color. Over time, the sensor will turn white, indicating the hat has experienced too much UV light and needs to be replaced. This sensor is helpful because the sun's UV rays can cause a hard hat to eventually become brittle, meaning it will no longer provide sufficient protection to the user. The UVicator Sensor will let the user know when his/her hat is no longer protective and needs to be replaced.

Features

  • Lightweight
  • UVicator Sensor
  • 4-point ratchet suspension
  • Standard brow pad

Selecting the Right Ear Protection: Ear Muffs

The last two posts have covered both types of ear plugs, reusable and disposable. The final post in this multi-part series will talk about the third type of ear protection commonly used in a workplace.

Ear Muffs
3M offers a wide variety of ear muffs, and they all provide excellent hearing protection and comfort. Since they have foam built into their structure, most ear muffs provide great attenuation. Ear muffs are unique in that most models feature volume control, which allows them to block sound or let it in at the preference of the user. Some models can even amplify weaker sounds. These features are what make ear muffs differ from ear plugs.

PTL Earmuff Over-the-Head NRR 26 dB H7A-PTL

Features
  • Earcup button for listening mode
  • Listen-through capability
  • Auto-switches to full protection after 30 seconds or when button is pressed again
  • Earcups with liquid and foam-filled comfort cushions for long wear and optimum seal
If you would like to order a pair, click here, or call us at 1-800-236-1975. Be sure to visit us at www.engman-taylor.com.

Ear plugs and ear muffs are both good tools to have in a workplace, but deciding which is best for you is completely up to personal preference. They each have positives, but they both come with some disadvantages as well. The following table, a comparison of ear plugs and ear muffs, might be able to help decide which is a better fit for you.

Ear Muffs

Selecting the Right Ear Protection: Disposable Ear Plugs

In our last post, we talked about the features and benefits of reusable ear plugs. While they are a great cost-effective option, there are still other alternatives if you find that reusable ear plugs aren't for you.

Disposable Ear Plugs
Engman-Taylor carries a wide range of disposable ear plugs that will fit almost any ear canal. Disposable ear plugs come in many colors, sizes, and styles, and give the option of corded or uncorded plugs. Most disposable ear plugs are made of polymer or expandable polyurethane (PU) foam, making them comfortable to wear for an extended period of time. Their foam structure ensures maximum protection of the ears.

Features
  • Made of foam to provide great attenuation
  • Low pressure PU foam expands with use to provide maximum comfort
  • T-shape for easy handling and wear
  • Smooth, soil-resistant cell-foam skin
An example of disposable ear plugs that 3M offers are Roll Down PU Ear Plugs. They provide good comfort and protection, and the foam expands to fit the ear canal of the user. This allows the one size offered to fit any ear canal. They are corded as well as dirt-resistant.

E-A-RSoft™Metal Detectable Earplugs

3M also offers E-A-R Classic Ear Plugs, which are made from a soft energy absorbing polymer foam. Like their other models, these ear plugs provide maximum hearing protection and comfort. The Classic Ear Plugs are absorption-resistant, which minimizes moving and shifting problems, even in moist conditions. These ear plugs are unique in that they are flame-resistant.

3M Disposable Respirators

The Disposable Respirators from 3M make breathing easier while working. They are comfortable to wear and are considered more effective when compared to other disposable respirators.

These respirators make breathing easier thanks to new technology. A high level of electrostatic charge is injected into an abundance of microfibers. These microfibers improve the capture of airborne particles, hence allowing easier breathing. 3M's Disposable Respirators have much lower breathing resistance compared to similar products of competitors.

A particulate respirator, such as the one shown above, would protect against non-oil based particles. It is best suited for work settings that involve heat or humidity.
